Chewbacca SuperCut

Jun 15, 2011

A little project that I did for my own amusement – a supercut (remember when Supercuts were a thing?) of every scene in the original Star Wars trilogy featuring Chewbacca, was selected to be included in the Migrating Forms Film and Video Festival (formerly the New York Underground Film Festival) during their “The Art of the Supercut” presentation!

“Chewbacca Supercut is a bizarre visual analogue to Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead (1966); both focus our attention on minor characters from major cultural touchstones in order to explore the postmodern feeling of narrative powerlessness. Chewbacca, like Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, is not history’s actor. ” - Moving Image Source

Update: After successfully arguing Fair Use against a YouTube takedown notice by Lucasfilm in 2011, I was unable to defend it against a second copyright claim by Disney in 2020. The original Star Wars - A New Hope Chewbacca Supercut was blocked on YouTube. However, the remaining episodes are still available!
